Communications Bulletin 01-23
Release Date: 02-15-2023
We are writing to inform suppliers of an amendment extension to the Electronics Recycling Bylaw—specifically regarding an extension of the interim reduction on environmental fees—which has been supported by the Honourable Sonja Savage, Minister of Environment and Protected Areas.
The fee reduction extension—detailed in the table below—is considered interim. ARMA will revisit the environmental fee structure upon completion of our Expanded Electronics Pilot Project, which was extended until March 31, 2024, through a Ministerial Order (65/2022), with the intention of resetting fees under the program at that time.
Product Category | Original Fees until September 30, 2021 |
Reduced Fees Effective October 1, 2021 (extended to March 31, 2024) |
Visual Display <30 inches | $ 4.00 | $2.50 |
Visual Display 30 inches & larger | $10.00 | $6.00 |
Laptops / Notebooks | $ 1.20 | $0.80 |
Printers | $ 4.80 | $3.00 |
Desktop / CPU’s | $ 4.40 | $2.00 |
This update will be reflected in section 4.2 of the bylaw, which we are in the process of updating:
4.2 The advance disposal surcharges to be remitted by a supplier, as set out in section 4.1, are reduced by 40% between October 1, 2021 and March 31, 2024 (“Temporary Reduction Period”).
Please note that this notice is only an extension of the existing interim reduction that was introduced on October 1, 2021, by adjusting the end date of the interim reduction from March 31, 2023, to March 31, 2024. There are no new rate changes effective at this time.
If you have any questions regarding this extension of the existing interim reduction, please contact our Electronics Supplier Administration by email at electronics@albertarecycling.ca or by phone at 1.888.999.8762, and we will be pleased to assist you.
Thank you for helping make Alberta’s electronics recycling program a success and supporting ARMA’s vision of Inspiring a Future without Waste.
