EPR

Registered producers and producer responsibility organizations (PROs) support Alberta’s extended producer responsibility (EPR) system, which shifts the cost of recycling materials like single-use products, packaging and paper products (PPP), and hazardous and special products (HSP) away from our municipalities and taxpayers to the producers and manufacturers who supply those products into the marketplace.

On this page, you’ll find information about registered EPR producers and registered PROs and how to register with ARMA.

Registered Producers

Producers supplying designated PPP/HSP materials into Alberta were required to register before March 1, 2024, to ensure compliance with the Regulation.

If you have not registered, you can still do so. If you require assistance, please get in touch with us at epr@albertarecycling.ca or toll-free at 1.888.999.8762.

Producers supplying designated PPP/HSP materials into Alberta were required to register before March 1, 2024, to ensure compliance with the Regulation.

Registered Communities

Communities that registered for EPR before December 31, 2023, started receiving collections under Phase I of the EPR on April 1, 2025.

Communities that register after December 31, 2023, and communities currently without recycling services will start receiving recycling collection services in Phase II on October 1, 2026. 

Communities that are not registered in EPR can still register. For more information, visit our EPR communities page or contact us at epr@albertarecycling.ca.

Registered PROs

A PRO, or producer responsibility organization, is a business that collaborates with producers to support them in meeting their regulatory obligations in EPR. Producers have the flexibility to select the registered PRO or PROs they wish to collaborate with and can enter into a contract with them to help meet their regulatory obligations. The terms and conditions of these contracts may vary.
