Ed Gugenheimer appointed Chair of CATRA

Alberta Recycling Management Authority (ARMA) is pleased to announce that Ed Gugenheimer, CEO, has been appointed as the incoming Chair of the Canadian Association of Tire Recycling Agencies (CATRA) Management Committee and its Board of Member Representatives for a two-year term, following their recent Annual Members’ Meeting (AMM) in Calgary, Alberta.

Ed brings nearly 30 years of leadership, fiscal governance, and operational expertise to the role, leading this five-member national committee for a two-year term. As Chair, he will help guide CATRA’s strategic direction, operations, and projects that strengthen tire recycling programs across Canada.

“I am honoured to help guide this association as we reach a pivotal time in exploring innovative solutions for end-of-life tires and making tire recycling even more sustainable and effective,” said Ed following the AMM. “ARMA’s vision is ‘Inspiring a Future Without Waste,’ and it’s a phrase I live by. I’m excited by this opportunity to share that passion with the committee and its members.

I would also like to thank Steve Meldrum, outgoing Chair, for his dedication over the past four years. His commitment to national collaboration and data-driven decision-making has been an inspiration to us all.”

This year’s AMM, chaired by Steve Meldrum, brought together leaders from across Canada to collaborate on enhancing program performance, expanding end markets, and advancing circular economy outcomes. Ed’s appointment builds on the momentum of those discussions, reinforcing ARMA’s role in driving innovation and national collaboration in tire recycling.

Formed in 1999, CATRA’s mission is to enhance the effectiveness of each Member’s program through the sharing of information, expertise and resources. Its vision is a strong partnership that is committed to a clean environment by enhancing value for its members and creating a sustainable, positive value for end-of-life tires in Canada.
