Get ready to recycle your used oil and paint!
Red Deer – Backyard mechanics and do-it-yourself painters, mark your calendars! On May 15, the Alberta Recycling Management Authority (ARMA), in partnership with the City of Red Deer, will host the first of three Paint and Used Oil Materials Roundups in 2021.
On Saturday, May 15, from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 pm., residents of Red Deer and Red Deer County can bring in unlimited amounts of used oil, filters, containers, leftover paint, and empty paint cans at no charge to 5222 – 54 Avenue in Red Deer. COVID-19 health and safety measures will be in place so give yourself plenty of time for the event.
“ARMA understands the importance of creating opportunities to divert these products away from municipal landfills. Our vision is to create a future without waste, and we look forward to serving the residents of Red Deer and the County with these roundups” states Ed Gugenheimer, CEO of ARMA. “Our ARMA staff will be on hand to assist Albertans with unloading their recycling products as well as answer any questions they may have regarding our program.”
In 2020 events alone, the residents of Red Deer recycled over 6,000 litres of used oil; the high-quality material is re-refined into new lubricating oil and the lower quality oil helps fuels various industrial applications. Leftover latex is either made into new paint or used as feedstock in cement manufacturing. The plastic paint containers see new life as park benches or planters.
If you can’t make the May 15th event, don’t worry, future roundups are scheduled for July 24 and September 25, same time and same location. Visit albertarecycling.ca for a complete list of paint and used oil materials eligible for recycling or email [email protected] if you have any questions about the event.
See you there!
