Here is a listing of the eligible and ineligible paints for the Paint Recycling program.


ELIGIBLE MATERIALS

  • Container Size: 100 ml to 24 litres
  • Interior & exterior latex (water-based) & alkyd (oil or solvent-based) paints
  • Porch, floor & deck paints
  • Interior & exterior varnishes & urethanes
  • Primers, undercoats & water repellent sealers
  • Enamels
  • Wood finishing oils & stains
  • Non-catalyzed & non-nitrocellulose lacquers and paints
  • Shellac
  • Rust & decorative metal paints
  • Concrete & driveway (non-tar based) paints
  • Deck & floor paints
  • Fence & barn paints
  • Empty paint cans & pails
  • Paint aerosols
  • Tree marking paints
  • Marine paint (must not contain pesticides)


INELIGIBLE MATERIALS*

  • Non-aerosol automotive paints
  • Non-aerosol craft & artist paints
  • Ink based aerosol or liquid
  • Chaulk based aerosol or liquid
  • Casein (milk based) aerosols or liquids
  • Tar based aerosol or liquid
  • Non-aerosol traffic marking paint
  • Colorants and tints
  • Paint or wood preservatives containing pesticides
  • Catalyzed & Nitrocellulose lacquer and paint
  • Two-part / component paints
  • Glues,  adhesives, caulking compounds
  • Spray adhesives
  • Deck cleaners
  • Epoxies
  • Fibreglass resins
  • Corrosive products
  • Roof patch, tars & grease
  • Solvents, thinners and mineral spirits
  • Brushes, rags & rollers
  • Galvanizing coatings

The following products may not be accepted*:

  • Bulging or leaking paint cans
  • Unidentifiable paint or containers
  • Paint not in original containers

    *Call your municipal collection site to see if these products will be accepted as hazardous waste.


Fees

The fees are based on container sizes:

 Unpressurized paint containers:   
 100 ml to 250 ml   $0.10 
 251 ml to 1 L  $0.25
 1.01 L to 5 L   $0.75
 5.01 L to 23 L   $2.00
 Aerosol paint containers all sizes     $0.10
