The Municipal Demonstration Grants applications are now closed.
These grants help Alberta communities with the installation of facilities such as playgrounds, pathways, skating rink mats, and other innovative ideas made exclusively from Alberta’s recycled tires. Grants are to a maximum of $25,000 with $20,000 requiring matching funds and an additional $5000 maximum (non-matching) for installation.
Since 1992, Albertans have been recycling their old tires through Alberta Recycling’s tire program. They have been supporting this recycling program through environmental fees paid on the purchase of new tires. Waste tires have been diverted from landfills and removed from stockpiles and tire retailers around the province, and turned into new and environmentally friendly products. In the 16 years the program has been operating, Albertans have recycled in excess of 50 Million tires.
To help bring manufactured products "full circle", from scrap tires back to the communities throughout the province, Alberta Recycling offers this grant program to assist in the creation of community based projects. Alberta communities invest considerable resources to support recycling to protect our environment; the 2008 Municipal Demonstration Project Grants provide an opportunity for communities to use and benefit from a wide range of recycled tire products.
Since 2000, Alberta Recycling has provided $4.5 Million in funding for 253 projects in communities throughout the province, enabling Albertans to see the results of everyone's recycling efforts.
