A significant portion of the scrap tires generated in Alberta are used in civil engineering applications such as Tire Derived Aggregate (TDA).  With this in mind Alberta Recycling commissioned a  report entitled Implications of Using Tire Derived Aggregate for Landfill Leachate Collection Systems – Literature Review; its purpose is to summarize the most recent and relevant research regarding the use of TDA in leachate collection and drainage systems.  Along with this review an evaluation regarding the use of shred as a drainage medium in Alberta landfills is currently being completed and will be made available on our website for reference in 2010.
